DME-III_Design of Machine Elements_Design of Levers

Image
Design of Levers: Hand Lever, Foot Lever, Bell crank lever Design of levers  Key points to remember regarding design of levers: the design of levers is all about finding the dimensions of the levers so that it could perform its function satisfactorily A lever is force multiplier, depending upon the location of the load and effort from the fulcrum point. Levers are classified on the basis of location of load, effort and fulcrum point. Levers are found in numerous machines and devices serving different purposes, mainly force transmission with multiplications. Levers make our day to day life easier, they make ease in lifting, ease in cutting, ease in holding, ease in opening tight things. Hammer claws, wheel barrows, pickup tonges, Scicors, bottle openers etc. are the examples of day to day use of levers. A lever is meant to make the work easy, so it actually reduces the effort required to do a work. The effort ...

DME-II_Thermal Engineering-II_Boiler-VI

Supercritical Boiler A large number of steam generating plants are designed between working ranges of 125 atm and 510 0 C to 300 atm and 660 0 C. These are basically characterized as subcritical and super critical boiler. Subcritical boilers consist of preheater, evaporator and superheater while super critical boiler requires only preheater and superheater.      In supercritical pressure boiler, only one tube almost about 2 km long is used and there is no steam drum. It is the only type suited to supercritical pressure operation, i.e. above 221.2 bar, as there is no latent heat of vaporization involved and water on being heated at constant pressure suddenly flashes into vapour and steam is further heated to desired temperature in superheater. Feedwater Treatment: Feedwater treatment is needed for---- Prevention of hard scale formation on the heating surfaces. Elimination of corrosion. Prevention of silica deposition and corrosion damage to t...

DME-III_Design of Machine Elements_Cotter Joint Numerical Problem

Design procedure of cotter joint in tabular form  Numerical Problems 1) Design and draw a detailed sketch of cotter joint which is required to withstand a load of 30 kN in tension and compression. The material used for the cotter joint has following allowable stress values Allowable stress in tension =50 MPa, Shear Stress =35 Mpa Crushing stress= 90 Mpa 2) Design and draw cotter joint required to withstand a load of 45 kN, The cotter joint is made up of material having following allowable stresses Allowable stress in tension =55 MPa Allowable shear stress = 40 MPa Allowable Crushing stress = 70 MPa 3) It is required to design a cotter joint which is used to connect two steel rods having same diameter. The maximum axial load on the joint is 50 kN. The material used for joint is 30C8 ,ultimate tensile stress for the material is 400 MPa. Using factor of safety 6. Design all dimensions of the joint. Take ultimate shear stress half th...
